As the Detroit Lions 2018 season is over, they already have to face some interesting decisions with their personnel. Their practice squad technically no longer exists, meaning those players’ contract have expired, and they are now free agents.However, the Lions have made sure five of the players formerly on their practice squad will not hit the market. On Monday, the team announced these five players have signed futures deals:WR Deontez AlexanderLB Garret DooleyS David JonesOL Jarron JonesDE Jonathan WynnAll five players finished the season on the Lions’ practice squad and all five are either in their first or second season in the NFL. Notably absent from this list is former Michigan quarterback Jake Rudock. Now a three-year veteran, Rudock failed to beat out Matt Cassel for the backup job during training camp and stayed on the practice squad all season during the 2018 season.It’s unclear whether the Lions chose to move on from Rudock or whether the young quarterback is choosing to weigh his options, hoping to find a more quarterback-needy team. However, assuming the Lions don’t eventually re-sign him, it opens up the possibility of the team drafting a quarterback in April’s draft. Obviously Cassel T.J. Lang Jersey , 36, isn’t a great long-term option for backup quarterback, and he, too, will be a free agent in 2019. In theory, the Lions could have two new quarterbacks on their roster next year.
